Aquaman and Arthur Curry are in fact the same person, and neither is the alter–ego of the other. Aquaman was brought up by his father, an unnamed "famous undersea explorer", in a watertight undersea home that he'd built himself. Growing up in the ocean depths endowed the young Arthur with superhuman abilities, such as breathing under water and communicating telepathically with the sea creatures.
